August 2016
Dear SCPS Families,
Greetings from Lower School Art! My name is Michelle Gray and I am happy to announce that this will be my 6th year as the SCPS Lower School Art Teacher. I am so excited to embark on a new school year filled with curiosity, creativity and learning.
Just to let you know a little about me: I have a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and a Bachelor of Science in Art Education with Certifications in K-12 Art and K-5 Early Childhood Education. My undergraduate education was completed at the University of Georgia and Armstrong Atlantic State University. I also have a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Georgia Southern University. My husband and I have been married for almost 20 years and we have 2 children, ages 16 and 12, who keep our lives full of love and laughter.
I am looking forward to exploring a variety of art media with your children. In Art this year, we will be exploring many different art media to include: drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and printmaking. I plan to share my enthusiasm for art and my love of learning with your children and help them achieve success.
Our school year will culminate with Reflections: A Celebration of the Arts in the spring. Reflections is a celebration of the Arts at SCPS where student artworks will be displayed at a school-wide Art Exhibit. More information will be provided in the spring.
Our school hosts an online art museum where I upload student art throughout the school year. The artworks are uploaded to the museum as soon as the artworks are complete so the museum is constantly evolving and growing. The online art museum can be found at http://www.artsonia.com/schools/school.asp?id=117669. Through the online museum site, families and friends are able to view the artworks and even purchase the artworks printed on a variety of gift items. For our new families to SCPS, I will be sending home permission forms in the next few weeks. You may fill out the permission online and explore the site or sign and return the form and I will set up your account for you.
My class website can be found at http://www.mrsgraysartclass.weebly.com. The class website is updated monthly with lesson plans, photographs of artworks and all the happenings in the art room. My class schedule is also available on the website.
Please feel free to contact me through email at [email protected] with any questions or concerns. Volunteers are always welcome and appreciated.
Looking forward to a great school year!
